Doughnuts with Aunt Kelley

Last weekend Aunt Kelley took us to get doughnuts as a treat before bedtime. The kids loved it and now they keep asking when Aunt Kelley will come over again! Thanks Kelley!

A Day on the Farmers Boat

So a few weeks ago, we went on the boat with the Farmers and my parents. Believe it or not, it's the first and only time we have gone this year. Each summer just gets so busy so fast, it is difficult to find the time. Also, with Delaney still being so young, the idea of a day on the boat doesn't sound like a baby-friendly activity. Anyway, here are some pictures of the day.

Cherries

Makenna loves cherries (well Makenna loves all food, but she REALLY loves cherries). She likes the independence of eating cherries and then spitting out the pit. The other night we are eating dinner and Makenna just starts crying so loud out of the blue. I assume she bit either her lip, cheek, finger, etc. and wants me to kiss it better.

She becomes hysterical and says, "I swallowed a seed." She was crying so hard, I barely could understand what she said. I thought maybe she was choking on it a little, so I said, well drink some water. But she wasn't choking, she was hysterical and through her huge tears asks, "Will it be there forever?"

"No, Makenna, it will come out."

through tears - "But how will it come out? Will it come out of my mouth?"

I should explain that at no point in her life has she questioned how food gets out of our body, nor has she asked what "poop" is. I was quite content with her not having this knowledge. But now was a teaching moment.

So then I try to explain the process in simple terms as Christian is looking at me with that How-are-you-going-to-explain-this-one look. She, of course, has a million questions and alternates between crying and quizzing me. She was still quite upset about swallowing it and worried it would never come out. I told her it would probably be gone in about 2 days.

When Nana Taylor came over later she told Nana that ice cream would make it feel better.

So today, 2 days later, she wakes up in the morning (she has been talking about this incident constantly) and the first thing she tells me is, "I think it's gone today." I guess she missed the point of my explanation!

Oh Ship!

The other day the kids, Christian and I sat down to watch the movie Sandlot. The kids got it for Easter from my parents and both Christian and I loved this movie as kids so we were so excited for the kids to see it. Also, with Camden so into baseball right now, it seemed like perfect timing.

I had forgotten about all the bad language in the movie! I guess with it being a bunch of boys being boys, it seems appropriate, but it's always difficult with your 4 and 3 year old watching. Luckily, with Makenna not being in Kindergarten yet, she and Camden have no idea what bad words are (she will find out soon enough).

So the kids watched the movie without asking any questions or commenting. Throughout the movie the kids are scared of this huge dog right by their baseball field, so the scenes with the dog are quite intense. Camden was very tense throughout these parts of the movie and clung to Christian. Right at the climax of the movie, the main character yells, "Oh, shi*!" as the dog jumps over the fence. Camden was so into the movie that he then yells, "Oh, ship!" just as loud. Christian and I looked at eachother and thought it was the funniest thing ever. Camden just keeps watching the movie. At least he didn't learn a new word!

Lil' Slugger

Our little guy is now a baseball player! He actually started with his first class last week and my dad took him. There are only two boys in the class right now (great one-on-one) and Camden couldn't be more excited. He asks almost every day if he has baseball today and when today I answered yes, his face just lit up!

This is Coach Brian and Camden with the other little boy, Matthew. Both the boys are great listeners and really try their hardest so it's a great class to watch.

I love the facility, it's indoors so we don't have to endure the heat and better yet, it's in Queen Creek, finally a close drive!

It was so much fun to see Camden doing something he enjoyed so much. Fridays are great!

Mindy and Josh Wedding

This past weekend Christian and I traveled to Wisconsin to go to Christian's cousin's wedding. The kids stayed with my parents (although it probably wasn't the best weekend to have them watch, Camden had his first baseball class which Papa took him to and Makenna had her last competition, which Angela took her to-Thanks again to all!)

It was a very nice wedding and we loved staying in the gorgous fifth wheel Audrey and Larry had for us. Here are some pictures of the three days.

Delaney 15 months

Delaney went today for her 15 month check-up and she's a healthy girl! Here are her stats:

weight - 23.6 pounds (59th percentile)

height - 32 inches (88th percentile) -our tallest yet!

head circ. - 17.6 in (19th percentile) small head like all the kids!

She only cried a little (when the doctor stuck that silly stick in her mouth to make her gag), but other than that....a healthy little toddler.

And a toddler she is. I think she's starting her terrible two's a little early. She's a feisty thing. She may not have a ton of words, but she sure knows how to get what she wants. Unfortunately she has learned to scream LOUD. I think she is sometimes frustrated when I don't know what she wants.

Currently she signs milk, more, eat, done, nods head for yes (so cute her whole body shakes), shakes head for no, and pacifier (she made up her own sign for this). Her spoken words are Daddy, Mama, hi, cup, shoe, woof, see, night-night, nana, papa, gigi, and probably others I can't remember. Sometimes it seems like she speaks in sentences though because her gibberish sure sounds like she knows what she is saying.

Backhandsprings

Yeah! Makenna got her backhandspring on the trampoline! We went over to Megan and Greg's tonight and I was able to let Makenna try it by herself. I think she's been ready for a while, but with the unpredictable behavior of four-year-olds, I didn't feel comfortable yet. We were so busy with recital too that no new tricks were being tried.

Anyway, I am so proud of her!!! She was so proud of herself too!!!

School's Out for Summer!

Makenna, Riley and Logan had their last day of preschool on Friday and had a little graduation/presentation. They sang Zip-a-dee-do-dah and Peanut Butter Jelly and got a certificate of completion.

I talked with Ms. Kellie and she said that you changed so much this year Makenna! Last year you would throw yourself on the floor for the first 10 minutes of class and then would participate but you were not very social. This year was MUCH different. You played with everyone and even danced for them frequently. After talking about it ALL the time, you finally were able to show them your lollipop dance with music and from that moment on you taught the kids how to do "sharp hips!"

On your report card Ms. Kellie said you were a bright young girl with a special talent for art. We see this talent at home where you love to color with your twistables. You loved going to preschool and have stated numerous times that you don't want to stop going. It's a good thing Camden is going to the same school next year, you can visit Ms. Kellie when we drop him off. We are so proud of you!

Kindergarten here we come!

Racer the Fish

Camden is now the proud owner of his very own fish. Speed Racer (or Racer for short). Daddy and Camden picked him out as a very special trip, and Camden is so excited to have his very own pet. Yeah Camden!

Little Miss Attitude

Well, Delaney just might be turning into her older sister. Her feistiness is definitely becoming a part of her personality and for now it's adorable (for now...). Here is Delaney at her high chair.



Also, she now puts herself in timeout if she's really upset. If she's mad about something, she will walk over to a corner, sit down to cry, and then when she's done get up like nothing happened. ALL unprompted. I know she seems young for timeouts, and she is just copying her brother and sister, but maybe she's telling us she's ready for this?

Finally! Makenna takes home her own trophy!! She has been attending competitions all year where the other girls are performing solos and get to take their own trophy home while the trophy the trio wins has to stay at the gym. She has been so understanding about this, but now she has her own!









For completing a year on the performing team, each girl got an adorable dance trophy. Makenna was ecstatic! What a great year, in two weeks we start over again!
