Halloween

Waking the kids up this morning was no problem as soon as I reminded them today was Halloween! They had a busy day while I was working. Makenna had a preschool party. After that, Nana Taylor took the kids to surprise Poppy at work, then they visited Christian's grandparents, then they went out to lunch, then finally naps.

They had a great time trick-or-treating and Camden was so cute. He kept mixing up when he was supposed to say, "trick-or-treat," and "Thank you, Happy Halloween!" He was trying so hard. They did wonderful and got LOTS of candy. One lady even passed out stuffed animals! I really hope I didn't offend her because I thought she was just getting rid of old ones and I complimented her on what a great idea it was to give old stuffed animals to all the kids. Well...she said they weren't old, she bought them. What a generous lady!

Here are our trick-or-treaters:

Happy Pumpkin Carving

We had a lot of Halloween related things to do on Wednesday night. First, Makenna, Camden and I worked on a treat for Makenna's preschool class. We were making spiders out of crackers with peanut butter, then we stuck pretzels in for legs and then raisins for eyes. We made 7 of them (we needed to make 13) and then I realized something. Makenna's school is a peanut free school! We couldn't use these treats! Luckily Makenna understood and we will give the treats to our cousins.

Then, Christian and the kids carved a pumpkin. I really didn't have much help in the matter because I was hanging out with Delaney, but Makenna and Camden had lots of ideas for Daddy. They picked all the shapes and had to okay it before Daddy could begin cutting. Last year Makenna loved getting dirty and Camden refused to stick his hand inside. This year, Makenna took one seed out and wanted to run to the bathroom to wash her hands. She would have done this after every scoop if I'd let her. Camden took a while, but eventually he reached right in.

Makenna and Camden's criteria for a Jack-o-lantern:
Circle Eyes
Circle and Triangle Nose
VERY happy mouth

I think Christian did a very good job with these parameters. They were in a silly mood and the pumpkin ended up getting named,"icky poo" (Makenna is really into potty humor).

After the carving they kids watched Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin. This is another one of those shows that I watch now and can't see why we liked it so much back then. Times are just different I guess. The kids weren't overly impressed either.

After all this, they were ready for Halloween.

Dairy Farm

Last week Makenna's preschool class went to the Superstition Dairy Farm. It was an educational and fun day. We learned all about the dairy process and even saw a baby cow that had been born only 2 hours before we got there. Did you know that they insert magnets at the bottom of cows stomachs when they are young so if they eat hay that contains nuts, bolts or other tractor parts by accident, it will stick to the magnet and stay there forever! I sure didn't!

Because Riley and Logan are in the class, we had a pretty large group. Christian's mom watches the kids on Thursday, so she was there too. This is the hay ride.

Delaney 8 months

Our little baby is really developing her personality and I am loving having a blog to show all these changes. Delaney is now 8 months. Here are some of her newest skills.

Crawling-Well, it's almost crawling. She gets where she needs to go, it just looks more like a caterpillar or wounded soldier. I'm sure she will figure it all out soon.

Waving-She just started this and it's so cute! The other two never did it until they were much older, but Delaney just lights up when we wave to her and cheer her on for waving back.

Fruit Puffs-She now eats those puffed up baby foods that disintegrate in her mouth and loves them. I love them because it's a new way to entertain her in a restaurant, and she loves trying to figure out her pinchers.

Babbling-Her newest sounds are kind of like a cheerleader, she says,"rah, rah," and then blows a raspberry.

Overall she is still a very happy baby with one teeny, tiny tooth popping through. I would get a picture, but there would be no way to even see it. Here is a video of the waving and crawling. So sorry it is sideways, I could not figure out how to flip a video.

Schnepf Farms

We went on our annual Schnepf Farms day this past weekend. Schnepf Farms is a farm only about 1 mile from our house. Every year they have a Pumpkin and Chili Festival and bring in a ton of rides and fun things for the kids to do. For most people, going to Schnepf Farms is a long drive, but because we live so far out, it's just down the street. We always go for the morning, come home for nap time and go back at night for more fun. This is our third year going and Delaney's first time. As always, the kids had a blast and it was a highlight of the month. To Makenna, it ranks right up there with Disneyland! Here are a ton of pictures of the day.

Makenna getting her face painted. She went to a Halloween Camp at the gym the day before and her group was called the Pumpkins, so she wanted to keep that going. We tried to talk Camden into getting a bat, but he was not so interested.

Our three little pumpkins!
Cool Guy! Camden wore his sunglasses all day. I convinced him that because they were black, they were special batman sunglasses. His eyes seem very sensitive to the sun, so he was much happier wearing them.

Makenna, ready for an exciting day.

We started out basic with the carousel. This was Laney's first time.

Playing on the playground, bicycles, and train. Makenna remembered this from last year and Camden didn't want to stop!

Delaney looks like she is waving! Which she can do now, I will post a video soon.

The bumblebee ride. WAY too slow of a line, but the kids like going up and down.

Lunch. Makenna was having a little power struggle, so you see the, "I am not going to smile," look. She eventually was happy, and so was Delaney.

How big are you?

Wow, Daddy you are so tall! The train-Camden's favorite. We went home, took naps (all except Makenna) and headed back after eating dinner. We went to the petting zoo to feed the goats (the pictures were all blurry) and then Makenna and Camden rode ponies! Makenna named hers Pinkish and this was her favorite part of the day. Camden named his pony "Horse," not creative, but it works.
And of course, the pumpkin patch.

The kids are now counting down until next year.
