Hiking Superstition Mountain

It is Fall Break this week, and Christian was able to take off one day so we could do something fun as a family! Christian planned a day full of hiking, a movie and a steak dinner. :)

We headed out of the house at 6:15. Here are the eager hikers! Makenna in front of the rocks. We saw one rock that looked like the back of a dinosaur (a stegasaurus as our dinosaur expert told us aka Camden). Well, I didn't take a picture of it, but from that point on, any large rocks were dinosaurs to Delaney.
I just love love this picture of Laney. (notice the toe popped???)
Camden, who still hates the sun (or at least looking into it). He lost his sunglasses though....
This was right before we made a wrong turn into a wash with huge boulders that we had to climb through. Makenna and Camden LOVED it. It was all about climbing over large rocks and we had a great time. Unfortunately Delaney couldn't do it so Christian and I had to alternate carrying her. Not as much fun for her. Eventually we figured it wasn't the right way and headed back. That took us about 30 minutes off track, but it was the kids and my favorite part of the hike.
This was our half-way point so we sat down to have a little snack together. Makenna had to use the bathroom, so I had to help her go without getting anything on her shorts. All the women will understand how difficult this can be! I have to say we weren't quite successful. She didn't get much on her shorts, but a little (I had a change of clothes in the car though). Boys have it SO much easier in this department!
Well, we didn't make it that high, but considering that we were walking at the pace of a 2-year-old, we did pretty good. Actually, we feel so lucky that we have such a great 2-year-old that is able to do this kind of thing. The kids had a great time and even said they wanted to live there!
After hiking, we went to see Despicable Me, came home took naps, and then enjoyed a wonderful steak dinner. A great day out as a family! :)
